My mother is 60 years old. Suddenly since last few months, she became sad, weak, loss of appetite, weight loss of 12 kgs. She doesn't feel interested to be active. Decision making power has gone slow. She complains repeatedly of weakness, cries a lot, repeats same things again and again. Currently she is taking thyroid and blood pressure meds. Kindly advise.

Hi lybrate-user, I went through the details about your mother, it looks like she has features suggestive of senile depression, but you also told that she keeps on repeating same thing again and again, it appears that she has mild memory loss (MCI which can be a part of depression) but I feek that there are some cances of early onset dementia too, so it needs detailed evaluation, Do not worry, she requires proper care froma psychiatrist and family support too, which of course you are providing, that's why you asked me the question. I believe she requires some medications for some time. Inbox me your details and we can proceed further or you can go to a nearby psychiatrist, what ever you feel is comfortable. Best of luck to you.
